I think Joel is a great and open-minded therapist. After many years on and off of seeking comprehensive mental healthcare and as many failures, he was the first physician I’ve met with that explored things other than talk-based therapy. We were working on a technique he pioneered related to EDMR (I believe) that was quite compelling. It was clear that Joel is enthusiastic about his work. However, and I feel terrible being so scathing, they have a terrible administrative team. It is pretty much nonexistent. I selected to do the sliding scale payment which I was happy to have as an option considering I don’t have insurance. Based on my income, I was informed that I would be paying $140/session. That has yet to be reflected on any of my invoices over the last three months. I would have little issue with a simple backend admin tech issue, but I have tried calling, leaving multiple emails and I cannot get anyone to update my invoices so that I can pay them. I can’t even reliable get in touch with someone. Last week I finally got someone to answer me about these invoice issues and she said they would be updated. They have not been updated. The administrative department of Taproot is, I have to say, comically incompetent. I truly have never in my life had this much trouble trying to get in touch with someone about such a simple issue. I have tried so hard to pay them what I owe but after weeks of trying to get this straightened out, my account is still just showing incorrect balances.

Joel and his team are fantastic therapists that truly have their clients best interest at heart. I would recommend them to anyone who has felt "stuck" with therapy they have tried in the past.
