Liz B - I highly recommend Torrey Pines Dermatology & Laser Center. I had complications from a surgery (done elsewhere) and they helped so much, even seeing me the same day when I was having a bad pain day. Dr. Richards knows her stuff; she found 2 stitches that had been left in by the previous surgeon!

Avoid avoid avoid. Dr. Richards (biz called “Torrey Pines Dermatology”) is clearly smart but has HORRIBLE bedside manner & biz ways. Spends about 2-3 mins with you on Intake & clearly not a listener or sharer or nice. She has “handlers” who whisk her in & out like a storm wind, more patients per hour = more money $$$$ per hour, I think her real focus nowadays. Biz biz biz. She missed a few lesions I wanted expert help with & REFUSED to look at them once notified unless I booked another costly Intake completion appointment. What ? She pushed Office labeled lotions & ointments for dry skin for $500. extra, but I quickly figured before exiting the pushy Reception desk rep, that only 1/2 of those products even needed at this point, so only blew $250. Never even used those items as my dry sky problem went away on own with more face & eye warm soakings and scrubs. Dispute the bad service, they hassle you & send to collections who apparently AGREED with me & disappeared x 3 years, until another biz reappearing this week wanting a few bucks. What ? I never asked her for the $1,000. in work time I lost fixing her problems. Also now notice her website with a non-MD Osteopath helping her, the guy helping her a few years ago seems to be GONE. I’m gone too. Yuck.

Torrey Pines Dermatology has been absolutely incredible to me since my first visit. PA Sakshi Patel is the absolute best, I have been seeing her for any and all concerns (cosmetic and medical) for the past few years and I could not be happier! She goes above and beyond to educate and provide her incredible expertise—I am so so happy to be in her care. The medical assistants and front desk staff are always so kind and helpful, I couldn’t recommend this place more!

Update: The owner replied saying they “confirmed I was out of network,” even though I verified multiple times before and during my appointment. When the manager called me yesterday, she opened the conversation by saying, “I’m calling to see what we can do to get the review taken down.” That alone shows how this office handles patient feedback — more focused on damage control than accountability. I strongly advise anyone considering Torrey Pines Dermatology to think twice before booking an appointment. I confirmed twice that they were in-network with my insurance (UnitedHealthcare), first through the official UHC website, where the provider was clearly listed as in-network, and again directly with their front desk before my visit. Despite this, I later received a bill for over $350, claiming I was “out of network.” When I called UnitedHealthcare, they confirmed once more that Torrey Pines Dermatology was indeed in-network. I explained this to their billing department, but was met with attitude and rudeness from Ruby, who seemed irritated that I was insisting I shouldn’t owe the bill. I went as far as to appeal the claim to the highest level, and UHC marked it as resolved in my favor. Yet shortly after, Torrey Pines called threatening to send me to collections. Their new excuse? Suddenly it wasn’t “out of network” anymore, it was supposedly a “deductible issue”. So which is it? Out of network, or deductible? It seems they’ll say whatever is most convenient at the moment. The inconsistency and dishonesty here are alarming, and the lack of accountability is unacceptable. Be warned—this office may try to scam you. They lied to me multiple times, offered zero help, and made an already stressful situation much worse. Patients deserve better.
