I am an emergency physician. I have had issues with degenerative disc disease for about 5 years. I was misdiagnosed for over a year and saw numerous physicians who assumed that I had a rotator cuff injury in my shoulder or tennis elbow when, in fact, my pain was due to degenerative disc disease and disk herniations causing referred (radicular) pain down my arms. Dr Goltra treated me 4 years ago on my cervical spine where I had two large disc herniations. I was able to avoid surgery and his skilled epidural injections have given me a significant improvement in the past several years. Yesterday I saw him again for two lumbar disc herniations and a large cyst that was pressing on my S1 nerve root. The pain had gotten to the point where it was severe and constant, and I feared that I may develop leg weakness beyond just the numbness and pens and needles. Dr Goltra performed two epidural injections as well as draining the cyst that was pressing on my nerve root. I got immediate relief. Today I would say I’m about 60% better from the single treatment yesterday. And I know I will continue to improve in the days ahead. I highly recommend him. He is extremely skilled and competent and will not recommend anything that he would not recommend to his own loved ones. Years ago I was scheduled for surgery and I saw him again and we discussed trying another epidural injection prior to surgery. He told me something that I’ve never forgotten that “you can never undo surgery”- I see too many patients that have spinal fusions only to be in pain again within a few years. The underlying arthritis or degenerative disc disease does not go away. It will return at other levels of your spine or other joints. So why not try something where you can give your body your own stem cells so that your body can try to heal itself?? With these newer treatments, you can help your body to heal itself and reduce inflammation. I strongly recommend Dr Goltra to all of my patients, family, friends who are facing any type of orthopedic joint issue or degenerative disc issues within their spine. He is extremely honest and straightforward, and you can trust him. I have been a physician for 20 years and sadly in my profession the doctors that I truly trust are not the majority.
