It has been a year and a half since we went to Paige Prather for a tongue tie consultation, and I intentionally waited to write this review to see how things unfolded over time. TLDR: The experience felt extremely pushy and profit-driven during a vulnerable moment for our family, and the serious concerns we were given about our daughter’s future feeding and speech never materialized. We were referred to this office by a lactation consultant when we were struggling with nursing. As new parents in a stressful situation, we were simply looking for an evaluation and a professional opinion. Instead, the entire visit felt like it was structured to move us toward surgery before anyone had even examined our daughter. When we arrived, we were first seated to watch a video about the post-procedure healing process before a provider had even looked in our daughter’s mouth. That immediately felt backwards. We made it clear to the nurse that we were there for a consultation only and did not want to discuss doing the procedure that same day. Despite that, the conversation continued to steer toward immediate treatment. During the exam, we were told our daughter’s tongue tie was an “8 out of 10” in severity and that she would likely have significant feeding and speech issues if it wasn’t corrected. Fast forward a year and a half. Our daughter is now one of the best eaters in her class and is above average in her speech development. None of the major concerns we were warned about have appeared. What also raised a red flag for us was that when we later described this experience to our pediatrician, she guessed which provider we had seen before we even said the name. I understand that tongue tie releases can absolutely be necessary and helpful for some children. But our experience felt like a high-pressure sales process during a moment when we were exhausted and worried as new parents. It left us feeling like vulnerable families may be pushed toward procedures that are not always necessary. Parents deserve space to get a thoughtful evaluation, ask questions, and make decisions without pressure. That was not the experience we had here.

Dr. Prather and her staff are absolutely amazing. I was so nervous with the decision to get my new first baby’s ties revised. When I called their office to make an appointment I immediately knew I had made the right decision. Tracie was so sweet and answered all of the questions I had before making an appointment. When we got to the office the environment was so welcoming and I felt at peace with my decision that pediatricians had even tried to disagree with me on. Which is a huge deal for me because I have severe anxiety about the dentist. They truly have the sweetest staff I have ever dealt with. Dr. Prather was so informative and so personal and honestly relates to a new mama just wanting the best for her baby. She did our consult and talked us through his ties and how they affect him. She talked ya through the procedure and asked if we had any questions. The procedure was less than 10 minutes and when we went back to get our baby he was so peaceful already. They showed us how to do his stretches and watched as we did them to ensure that we were comfortable with doing them. I will hands down always recommend Dr. Prather’s office and I am so thankful that they took such great care of my baby boy.

This is a racket! We saw a lactation consultant and she said our child had a severe tongue tie and we should get the procedure. Even though he has been feeding well. She recommended us to Dr. Prather. They wanted to charge $300 consultation fee just to stop in and offered a same day procedure for another $900. We waited to do anything until we spoke to our pediatrician. We met with our doc and we said we saw a lactation consultant and before we could even finish our question, our doctor said, “Let me guess, he has a tongue tie? Let me guess, she sent you to Doctor Paige Prather?” Our doctor is not even in Franklin and she knew about this and scam! At the advice of our doctor, our child does not have an issue and we should not get the procedure. Tongue ties are rarely an issue. This is a racket used to scare parents and make money. Please consult your pediatrician before you do anything!
