I am writting this review as a recommendation of Dr. Villanueva and the Alpha Theta Center. I have had extensive Neurofeedback at Alpha Theta Center. It is remarkable the difference it has made. I suffer from a low lying depression at times. I have had many hours of traditional therapy and while it helped a bit, I think it is difficult for a therapist to make a significant change in a psyche that has been through multiple trauma's by talking or listening and giving feedback. My problem was at a deeper level. I became disalusioned with the traditional model of talk therapy ( but not until after many hours/years of trying!) and just figured I would live with this, likely forever. I came to Dr. Villanueva pretty skeptical but facinated by the concept that you could train the brain to levels of normalcy. Wow how is that possible? I begain working with Dr. Villanueva and what was striking was that I noticed almost immediate change. My focused improved right away. The brain fog that had been a large part of my depression lifted. My sleep improved and my overall outlook was better. I was able to do some of the deeper work I had been trying to do (without result) and see a marked improvement. My energy shifted as well and I was able to be more efficient at work, for longer periods of time. Truly remarkable.
Doctor Villanueva is a compassionate, caring doctor who works tirelessly for his patients. Because I work long days,sometimes the standard hours that therapists offices are open, won't work for me. Doctor Villanueva would see me very early or sometimes late at night or on weekends. He would always find a way to fit my session in somehow. When we began to work on some of my deeper issues, the compassion he showed was really profound and as important in my healing as the therapy itself. I could not have explored those issues again without feeling safe. Dr. Villanueva gave me that kind or reasurance that I was in a very protected space, so that I could do the hard work. Neurofeedback is amazing. I would never have believed that it was possible to do this and once I got passed that I would have been shocked to find that it works. But it works!
I sent my daughter to Doctor Villanueva and she has had remarkable results including a lessoning of severe debilitating migraines by about 80%. Nothing else has worked and we have spent countless dollars and Doctors visits trying. I could go on, but if I were to sum this up in one or two sentences it would be this: If you have tried many types of therapy and medications and it has not worked,don't give up,go to Dr. Villanueva and give this a try. You have very little to lose and if it works for you, then you are one more person who is relieved from needless suffering. Check out the video on his website of the soldier in Afganistan....remarkable. That is a good representation of the fundemental change this work can make. It is how I felt, tired weary and emotionally flatline to vibrant and energetic. I am grateful that the Alpha Theta Center exists under the kind and expert leadership of Dr. Villanueva. He is one of the good guys- for sure!

I’ve worked with Dr. V a few times now. First, in 2020 when I was suffering from PTSD that was causing such intense symptoms I couldn’t recognize myself. I wasn’t sleeping, my hair was falling out in handfuls, my mental health was suffering, and nothing seemed to help until I went to neurofeedback. It was completely life changing. I did about 30 sessions and was able to get my life back and feel like me again.
Now, I’m back at Alpha Theta Center going through neurofeedback treatment again after sustaining a bad concussion in February, a Post Concussion Syndrome diagnosis, and having my life flipped upside down by the debilitating effects of this brain injury. Once again, neurofeedback has been a key factor in giving me my life back. Dr. V has really gone above and beyond to help me get the treatment I needed and I really appreciate that he stays up to date with the newest information in the field.

I’m giving this center two stars instead of one because Dr. Villanueva is very knowledgeable and doing Neurofeedback with him was helpful. However his behavior is very unprofessional to the point of verbal abuse, and when I told him it made me feel unsafe because of my past trauma, he refused to take any accountability or talk to me about it at all. I ended up quitting after a session where he yelled and swore and me while I cried. So unless you have a very thick skin I would recommend getting help elsewhere.

Three years ago, a traumatic event sent me into an episode of severe depression & anxiety that required cold plunges, meditation, and the "help" of benzodiazepines, just to make getting through the day tolerable.
After a year and a half of this agony, I quit my full-time job and began treatment at a nearby Intensive Outpatient facility. Unfortunately, after several months, I could not justify the expense of continued treatment at this facility. Finding myself still "treading water", and having exhausted other options such as TMS, and ketamine, I hesitantly decided to give the Alpha Theta Center a try.
This was a key turning point during my recovery.
Dr. Villaneuva's genuine concern for my well-being, straightforward feedback, and flexible scheduling was a very refreshing departure from the standard obfuscated interactions that are somehow considered acceptable in the medical field these days. His expertise, insight, and access to world-class experts in the neuroscience and holistic medicine communities proved invaluable during my recovery. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Dr. Villanueva's work literally changed my life. I slept poorly for over 15 years, had panic attacks, was often anxious and depressed, and was told I might have PTSD. I bought 15 sessions, and before the 15 sessions were up my life had already changed. Nearly one year later I still sleep extremely well every night. My mind is more focused, and when life feels stressful I am able to bounce back very quickly. Honestly, I wish I could jump through your computer screen, shake you, and ask why you are still reading this instead of calling him.
After the first 15 sessions, and after about 4 months I called him again because I was trying to cope with a divorce as best I could. He helped tremendously.
I am sure that everyone could benefit from his work, as we all could use a little help, not just people suffering from chronic issues.
Please note that his manner is very direct, which can be unexpected, but his directness cuts right to the point and saves time.
I cannot recommend him more highly.
