I work with Dr. Solvason for treatment in his private practice, and also have undergone TMS treatment at IntegralTMS.
In treating me, Dr. Solvason has been compassionate, curious, and humble. His joviality threw me at first but he genuinely really loves what he does and it shows. He is less prescriptive and directive than most psychiatrists I’ve encountered, but it helps him learn more by listening, and I’ve grown to trust him a lot. As someone with PTSD, it is very hard for me to trust anyone, so that is meaningful. He has taken the time to genuinely get to know me and understand all of my conditions, even those he is less experienced with. Even when things are hard and he needs to deliver difficult messages (e.g. you need to make some big changes in your life or you won’t get better), he is caring and gentle. He is responsive and available to his clients. He has experience in a lot of things including treatment resistant depression and TBIs. He is queer and neurodiversity friendly.
The TMS clinic is calm, quiet and has wifi and snacks. Unlike a lot of clinics, they offer a five day accelerated TMS protocol that has a higher efficacy rate than the standard six week treatment. They are an in network insurance provider and cheaper than many other area clinics (because they care about affordability, not because they sacrifice quality). Dr. Solvason is very attentive and checks on every accelerated client every day, often multiple times a day. The protocol is customized and designed with your specific treatment goals and history in mind. All of the staff members are polite and nice. The technician always treated me with care and was empathetic that I didn’t like the sound or the feeling of the treatment. They have tvs in each treatment room so you can watch Netflix to distract you. If they are placing a lunch or boba order, they sometimes share with the accelerated clients. When I wanted to watch Star Trek, they got Paramount so I could watch it while in treatment.
The location is a little bit weird and hard to find - it’s at the back of a building shared with a Chinese university - but I don’t think that’s very relevant to the quality of the clinic. Just give yourself an extra five minutes to find it and know the rent savings seem to be passed on to you with lower treatment costs.

I cannot speak more highly of IntegralTMS. The treatment offered is extremely effective, and it is administered by skilled and compassionate technicians. The office staff, too, are caring, capable, and knowledgeable. Overseeing everything is Hugh Brent Solvason, MD, PhD, an expert in the field of TMS treatments, practicing as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford, as well as running his private clinic, IntegralTMS. With the private clinic, he can see more people, and alleviate more suffering. He is the heart and soul of the clinic, and checks in with each patient as the treatment moves along. He is quick to grasp the patient's situation.
I have been treated for depression for over a decade. In that time I have tried more than 10 medications, as well as acupuncture, moxibustion, qi healing, and CBT. Some of the medications worked for a while, but then their effect faded away. Some didn't work at all. I have now been doing TMS (in conjunction with some medications) for about 8 years. Some people do a course of TMS and boom! they feel much better and then need only occasional maintenance treatments. I have sometimes gotten down to once-a-week treatments, but a lot of the time it is more than that. At any rate, it works, and it doesn't have side effects.
One thing that sets IntegralTMS apart from some other clinics is that before treatment begins, they require a brain MRI. With that, they can target exactly the right place in the brain to stimulate. To me, this means they are determined to make the treatment the exact best possible.
For the treatment, you get a guide (looks like a 4-5" fancy piece of plastic) temporarily placed on one side of your head. Then you sit in a big chair, like a dentist's chair, and have a coil placed near the other side of your head. The coil makes some pulses -- which you get used to very quickly -- and it lasts around 9 minutes, during which time you watch a show of your choice on Netflix. That's it. You may do multiple treatments an hour apart.
The clinic has a variety of comfortable areas to hang out in between treatments, as well as coffee and snacks.
