About this clinic

The Brannen Center, a ketamine therapy clinic in Athens, offers ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, and related conditions. The practice combines ketamine infusions with structured psychotherapeutic support, tailoring protocols to individual patient presentations and monitoring response over time. Hormone replacement therapy is available as an adjunctive service for patients whose mental-health presentations are complicated by hormone imbalance. The clinic emphasizes an integrated approach, coordinating care with referring physicians where appropriate and positioning ketamine therapy within a broader mental-health framework rather than as a standalone intervention.

I have been seeing Aura at the Brannen Center weekly for 15 months for EMDR and parts work therapy, following an accident in which I sustained a TBI (severe concussion). EMDR is the gold standard of treatment for PTSD, and for me it works extremely well. Talk therapy would take much, much longer to achieve similar results. EMDR feels a little like voodoo while it’s happening. It’s all about identifying the issue in your body, and using bilateral eye movement, bilateral stimulation, and possibly taxation of working memory all the while (for “stuff” that doesn’t want to clear out otherwise). The reason it feels like voodoo is that the effects are relatively evident in the moment, and continue to become more evident over the following days. If there are a lot of issues to process, it can take longer. It is not necessary to “talk the issue to death,” as the treatment is very body-based. The further along you get in therapy, the faster it progresses. Don’t be discouraged if it seems slow at first. Aura is extremely well-trained, and regularly trains other therapists in EMDR. Sessions can be difficult, as it is necessary to get in touch with the feelings you’re processing. But that is true of any therapy. Aura has been fabulous at building a trusting relationship with me, and her skills are top-notch. I would, and have, sent many friends her way. I came to her at a time of true desperation, and I honestly believe she saved my life. I have an advanced degree in psychology and have done other therapy work in the past, even a little EMDR (which was effective), but NOTHING I have done before approaches the work I have done with Aura.

Started therapy here but the counselor just told me if I wanted to talk about my problems to talk to Chat GPT.
