I scheduled an appointment at Hawkins Psychiatry to complete work accommodation paperwork and paid a $50 deposit. I wasn’t informed that multiple visits would be required until I arrived. When I raised this concern, staff acted as if it should have been obvious. As a first-time patient unfamiliar with the process, I felt dismissed.
When I spoke with the manager, she misrepresented my concern, claiming I said the receptionist guaranteed the paperwork would be done at the first visit—which I never stated. My issue was that new patients should be told in advance if multiple visits are needed, especially since taking time off work requires planning. They eventually made an exception, and the psychiatrist sincerely apologized at my next visit.
However, the paperwork submission was delayed—though it was due Friday, it wasn’t sent until Monday because their fax machine was down, and no one informed me. This lack of communication showed a continued lack of urgency or courtesy.
I had a follow-up phone appointment for
11/11/25. Despite my $50 credit, the receptionist, Ruby, tried to charge a full copay and claimed no record of my deposit. Then, proceeded to say that the person who “had access to that” was not there today and would have to return my call tomorrow. “And for today it was going to be the full copay :)” LOL Ms. Ruby was not trying to use her precious time trying to figure out what happened to my credit, she just wanted to wash her hands of it and charge me. After pushback, she proceeds to transfer me to their unprofessional manager who answers the phone RUDELY, only says, “ONE MOMENT.” No greeting or can you please hold, and then the line just goes silent. Of course I hang up and Ms. Ruby later calls back saying the manager had found my credit and proceeds to try to collect the remaining copay, without any apology :) The entire interaction, including the manager’s unprofessionalism, reinforced my decision to never return to this place. Overall, Hawkins Psychiatry shows poor communication, disorganization, and little regard for patients’ time. My experience seems to align with the many negative reviews others have shared, as well. They pick and choose who they want to give a good experience to.

Before coming here I was so nervous about what my experience would be like, as I didn’t know what to expect. During my 1st visit I had the worst anxiety; However, I received so much reassurance from staff and my provider. All of the staff I’ve come in contact with have been amazing. From front desk to the provider— each time I call or come in person, I’m greeted with so much kindness and professionalism. The staff here has made this journey for me so much less of a headache. Thank you so much to the employees of Hawkins Psychiatry. You all are very much appreciated for all you do!

Extremely disappointed with the billing practices here. I scheduled an appointment with a psychiatrist at this office who is listed as in-network with my insurance provider.I was required to pay a $50 fee just to schedule, which seemed unusual but I complied.
When I arrived for my appointment, I was told I had to pay an estimated deductible amount upfront—not a copay, but a guesstimate of what my deductible might be. I explained that I didn’t have the funds available that day and offered to pay after the claim was processed through insurance. Despite that, they refused to provide care unless I paid the full estimated amount on the spot.
This is incredibly frustrating and felt more like a financial transaction than a medical visit. If you're using insurance, be cautious—this provider may not follow typical in-network billing practices.
Patients seeking mental health care deserve transparency and compassion, not surprise charges and denied appointments.
