Incredibly overpriced. I was quoted $450 for an appointment that doesn't include any bloodwork, etc., and $1100 for bloodwork itself. That's about 5-10× what everyone else charges. The receptionist kept talking over me going on about not taking insurance when I'd already told her I was cash pay. For comparison, my Harvard MD/Yale JD ob/gyn is $250/visit and bloodwork is less than $200.

Cannot recommend Optimal Health of Houston enough!!! I’ve been seeing Laura Mendez for only 4 months now and she’s already made such a positive impact on my life. She’s looked at things that 3 different endocrinologist had yet to look at for my thyroid and hoshimotos. Almost being 30 now and having my son my hormones tanked. I had no idea why I felt so awful all the time. With the hormone replacement therapy she’s managed to completely bring up my energy and overall well being within 3 months time. She has looked at my body as a whole and I appreciate the level of care and detail she takes with each appointment I have with her. My health plan alone was over 50 pages long, it speaks to her genuine love of her patients and care of her work. Update: it’s now been a year with Laura Mendez at Optimal Health of Houston. is exceptional. Her attention to detail, comprehensive testing, and clear explanations set her apart from any doctor I’ve seen. She truly listens, takes the time to understand the whole person, and provides thoughtful, individualized care. It’s rare to find a person who combines such expertise with genuine compassion. I’m so thankful for the level of care and support she provides.

Practitioner Mendez is a wealth of knowledge. She studies your case and helps get to the reason for your illness, not just giving you something for the symptoms. I went to several traditional doctors without help, after seeing her she gave me information/advice that actually aided my GI problems. I am sincerely grateful for that. Mona has been pleasant to work with and I appreciate her help with the herbal medicines and appointments. Thank you.

Laura Mendez is nothing short of amazing! I had a total thyroidectomy in 2010 and spent years trying to find a doctor who could help me or one who would listen to me and care about how I felt. My life changed when I found Ms. Mendez. Not only does she know more about the thyroid than every other doctor I saw combined, but she listens to me and cares about how I feel, not just about what the lab results say. She takes the whole person into consideration, and offers advice on nutrition and supplements. Just recently I asked for Ms. Mendez’s advice about a knee injury, and she is advising me on therapies, exercises, etc. so that I can hopefully avoid surgery. She is compassionate and helpful, going far above and beyond typical healthcare. Her office staff are friendly and helpful. This is truly a one of a kind medical facility!

Ms. Mendez and her staff are nothing short of amazing. They helped my 17 year old daughter learn and understand what was going on with her body and allowed her to return to her normal teenage life. After years of being told "everything was testing normal" yet watching my daughter struggle and suffer with no real answers, my wife decided to take her to her functional medicine doctor to see if she could help and figure out what was happening. Thank goodness she did. After Ms Mendez took the time to listen to our daughter and ran the proper tests we had a diagnosis and multiple ways to help improve and strengthen our daughters life. From actual information as to what was happening, to natural supplements to help her body get back to normal, hormone testing and even nutritional info and guidance... Our athlete is now able to play the sports she loves again, focus on school and be a healthy, happy 17 year old. We will forever go to Optimal Health and trust Ms. Mendez with all of our medical and health needs or concerns.
