After starting menopause, it wasn't long before I started feeling depressed that what I was experiencing was for the rest of my life. My worst symptoms were the hot flashes/night sweats that were extreme, embarrassing, constant and kept me awake at night, and very painful joints throughout my body that made it so hard to walk and function in general.
Dr. Marcantel had me do a saliva and blood test to see where my hormones were, and that began my journey to healing. I am now back to my old self and feel so much better. Dr. Marcantel is so compassionate and understanding, is easy to talk to, and I cannot recommend her enough. My husband calls her my primary care physician...I call her an angel.

In January I was diagnosed with breast cancer and was in need of guidance, resources, and support which Dr. Marcantel provided. Since Dr. Marcantel practices integrated medicine, she worked with me, my surgeon, and oncologist to design a plan of care that was specifically tailored to boost and sustain my immune system, minimize inflammation after surgery, and reduce side effects of radiotherapy and pharmaceutical drug therapies. Dr. Marcantel empowered me with strategies for using food as medicine and focusing on effective methods for managing emotional stress while going through treatment. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Marcantel for sharing with me valuable knowledge that equipped me to be fully on my healing journey.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine told me that her husband asked an interesting question of her. “What do you and your girlfriends talk about when you all are together?”. She did not have to think about it…her answer came quickly. MENOPAUSE. Oh, how I identified with her quick answer. Until I entered into the season of menopause, it was just a word to me but once I hit my late 40’s and began to experience all that menopause entails, it became a topic of much conversation. At first, the hot flashes and night sweats began to present themselves. Being an eighth child, I went into my natural mode of “buck up, buttercup” and waited anxiously to get through this season of menopause. However, hot flashes and night sweats and difficulty sleeping became more intense but even worse, my mind and attitude became an issue. I became “foggy brained”, a little depressed and super snappy with my husband and children, saying and doing things that just was not me and then living with the guilt of what I had wrongly said and done which made me feel ever further from “normal”! I knew, at this point, I needed to get help and understand how I could get back to normal!
After a very disappointing OB-GYN appointment that really offered very little hope for me from a natural medicine perspective, my next step was to connect with Dr. Marcantel by reading her website and blog posts as well as watch her very informative videos. Reading her book, Imagine: A Whole Different Kind of Medical Care, helped me to see that navigating this season of menopause well was so attainable! I made an appointment with Dr. Marcantel and was so relieved and excited by her encouragement that she could help me.
After taking blood tests and saliva tests with her, she helped me understand the results which pointed to all the reasons why I was struggling in a way that made sense to me. What these tests pointed to was mostly hormonal imbalances, specifically a hormonal imbalance known as “estrogen dominance” which basically is having high estrogen and low progesterone levels throwing the balance of those two hormones off and pointing to all the physical symptoms I was experiencing. With great patience and much knowledge, she came up with a protocol for me which began to make such a difference to my well being within 2 months and has continued to this day. I am so grateful to feel normal again…and so was my family! As a bonus, Dr. Marcantel shared with me her concept of “food as medicine” and how what we put into our body has a big impact on your hormones and so many other things that affect your well being. She encouraged me to take hold of my health by educating myself and to enjoy foods I never before considered as part of my diet. It has become so fun and empowering to take such good care of myself.
About a year after this journey with Dr. Marcantel, my sister, Rachel (who is also my best girl friend), was diagnosed with breast cancer which took our breath away. We found out it was breast cancer caused by “estrogen dominance”, the same exact hormonal imbalance that Dr. Marcantel discovered and helped me to resolve. My sister, Rachel, has always been diligent to get annual mammograms and doctors checkups, but how quickly a hormonal imbalance threatened to wreak havoc. Thankfully, Dr. Marcantel also began to walk my sister, Rachel, through her breast cancer journey and give her hope to be restored and encouraged. And soon afterwards, she also walked alongside of my 23 year old daughter with her hormonal imbalances.
Dr. Marcantel, thank you for your kind and knowledgeable care for me, my sister, my daughter and all the other patients you have walked through the season of menopause and women’s health issues (many of whom are my friends who have also sought your health care solutions). You made a huge difference in our lives! Keep up the good work in walking alongside of people “In Good Health”.
