About this clinic

Perfect Motion Sports Therapy, a regenerative physical-medicine clinic in Acton, Massachusetts, specializes in Shockwave Therapy for musculoskeletal pain and sports injuries. The practice employs the G.A.M.E. Test, a movement-assessment protocol, to guide individualized treatment planning. Shockwave therapy uses acoustic-wave energy to stimulate tissue repair and is commonly applied to chronic tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, and soft-tissue conditions that have not responded to conservative care. The clinic focuses on functional restoration alongside pain reduction, positioning treatment within a sports-medicine framework. Patients typically pursue care here after initial physical therapy or when seeking an alternative to injections or sur

Pitching is a complicated set of movements that need to occur in a sequential pattern to not only throw the ball accurately, but to throw pain free. With all the arm injuries that are occurring in baseball, and with these injuries coming earlier and earlier in age, you need a biomechanical expert who understands pitching. As a parent of a high school pitcher, I am constantly looking at pitching mechanics to help improve performance. Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad information and guidance out there. Then I ran across Dr. Kevin McGovern at Velocity Rx. Kevin understands how the body needs to move so your arm is protected and to avoid stressing the shoulder and elbow. He has developed an effective program to analyze a pitcher’s mechanics through slow- motion film of your pitching mechanics to initially evaluate your form. The film is then analyzed and broken down to explain the areas that need to be worked on. There is also exercise/movement analysis with emphasis on sequential movement of the shoulder complex and proper squat form. This is the key to arm health. Exercises are then prescribed to improve strength that will dial in the sequential movements of your pitching mechanics. Once the appropriate muscles are engaged, it is time to dial in your pitching form. Kevin’s program breaks down pitching mechanics with individual drills that are advanced to ultimately getting you back on the mound throwing harder with proper body efficiency to avoid injury. This program provides constant feedback of all your exercises, pitching drills, and mound work through video analysis to keep you on track and correct any flaws that need to be corrected. If you are a parent or engaged athlete looking to understand pitching mechanics and strengthen the vital muscles to improve pain free velocity, this program will elevate you as a pitcher.

Transformative! Did five or six weeks of PT prior to seeing Kevin with some progress but quickly hit a plateau. Within two sessions with Kevin, Progress resumed, and I could actually believe that my shoulder would not hurt at some point in the future. Combination of shockwave and Kevin skill got over the finish line. Not looking forward to my next injury, but I know where I’m going when that happens. -W

Turning 60 was a big milestone for me with a planned retirement, cycling trips and more leisure time on my line up. What I did not expect was a sudden non traumatic knee injury that would stop me in my tracks, cause me unbelievable pain and prevent me from doing almost anything that involved my legs including going up and down stairs, walking for any distance, driving....you name it. I did all the things that I thought would help: Iced it, rested it, used NSAIDS and spent hundreds on various knee braces. Three months went by with zero improvement. I felt old and demoralized and was absolutely sure that this was going to be my new life. It was devastating. My sister, a physical therapist, recommended that I meet with Dr. McGovern and see if he could help me. She heard that he recently had started using Shockwave and had seen good results. I figured, what the heck? Kevin did a movement assessment and evaluation of my knee, and we started both the Shockwave therapy, and exercises to strengthen my muscles which had apparently atrophied over years of sitting at a computer for work. The results have been life changing! I am back to cycling 30+ miles daily on the weekends, walking several times a week on rugged terrain and doing water aerobics 3-4 days a week. I've lost 30 pounds and feel younger than I have in years. I continue to see Kevin a couple of times a month to ensure that I maintain my gains and continue to improve, using Shockwave as a means of ensuring that I don't develop similar problems in the future. Kevin's approach of individualized instruction, utilizing multiple therapies concomitantly, and giving me tools to strengthen my other muscles to prevent future injuries has been a real game changer for me. I am looking forward to an active and enjoyable retirement that I was truly worried was going to be impossible for me just a few months ago. I highly recommend Dr. McGovern! He helped me get my life back!
