About this clinic
Origins: Health by Design, a functional medicine clinic in Irmo, South Carolina, offers individualized diagnostic and treatment protocols grounded in functional-medicine principles. The practice emphasizes identifying root causes of chronic illness and dysfunction rather than managing symptoms alone. Practitioners conduct comprehensive evaluations including detailed patient history, functional laboratory analysis, and systems-based assessment to inform treatment planning. Care integrates dietary intervention, lifestyle modification, targeted supplementation, and when appropriate, pharmaceutical support. The clinic serves patients with chronic fatigue, autoimmune presentations, metabolic imbalance, and other conditions responsive to functional-medicine assessment. Treatment plans are tailored to each patient's underlying pathophysiology and adjusted over time based on clinical response and ongoing laboratory monitoring.
Went with my two daughters for routine health visits today. The entire office staff was fantastic! Melissa was absolutely wonderful! We have avoided doctors for quite some time but my daughters both said they would gladly go back to this office every year. We absolutely loved everything about Melissa’s demeanor and how she communicated and her suggestions were also very welcomed. We know quite a few people who go to Unified Family Health Care and they all love it!!

This review aims to shed light on my recent experience, as I typically don't leave feedback but feel compelled to prevent others from facing similar issues. Upon scheduling and attending appointments, I encountered temporary staff who seemed unfamiliar with procedures, leading to confusion and financial repercussions. Despite not signing any paperwork during my visits, I was informed my insurance was out of network, resulting in unexpected costs. However, upon submitting a claim myself, it was revealed that they were indeed in network, yet the office has failed to refund the excess amount I paid. I strongly recommend seeking services elsewhere, where there's a stable staff, proficient understanding of insurance processes, and clarity regarding financial obligations, even with insurance coverage.

I cannot speak for any of the services offered here other than the functional medicine/primary care services I received. We received an email in the middle of the night a few weeks ago that our primary care provider was no longer with the company (Kimberly Fanguy was INCREDIBLE!). In light of several examples of bad experiences stemming from a disorganized office staff, I decided to give Melissa a try despite my concerns about the organization's ability to offer competent care now that Kimberly is gone. She was dismissive, unprofessional, and unprepared. After a short, silly back-and-forth of excuses of why everything was Kimberly's fault, and not the office's, Melissa stormed off and said "tell Kim I said 'hi'." We have had countless experiences where messages didn't get sent, important things not followed-up on, or a rude receptionist (a staff member told me she was fired because of the similar complaints they'd received), etc. It is truly sad that UFHC turned out to be this way, because meeting Kim earlier this year my wife & I finally felt like we had found a place that truly cares about your well-being more than the cash flow you will provide. But after Kimberly's departure, it is evident that such is not the case. Will never step foot in this facility again!

I love this office! Everyone is so kind and helpful! I can have my back adjusted, get my allergy shots, and see my practioner Stephanie (whom I love) for my medical needs all in one place and at the same time! They really care about you and want to treat the problem, not just the symptoms!

Stephanie is awesome, patient, kind and very knowledgeable. Her staff is vedy friendly and patient. I love her and what she stands for in the medical world. I like how she doesn't mind taking a holistic approach (upon patients request) when it comes to resolving the medical concerns you may have or dealing with the symptoms. The only downsides for me (but it doesn't change their rating) it's a 40 min drive because of where I live, they're not open on Wednesdays which if you need something can be a little inconvenient, and most things what a bigger doctor office would have they don't have like xray machine, lab for quick processing.
