I cannot say enough about Ilona Bleaman at Internally Balanced. Even though I live in California and see her via telehealth, she has been the most supportive and helpful provider I've ever worked with. She is currently my PCP, and her level of care far exceeds anything I have experienced in traditional settings. Ms. Bleaman is incredibly responsive , always available when questions come up, and she takes the time to give thoughtful, detailed answers. I originally discovered Ms. Bleaman through her podcasts with The Fasting Method platform, and I am so grateful I did. I am never one to write a negative review, in fact this may be my first, but I wanted to share to prevent it happening to anyone else. I saw Ilona a few times in hopes of tackling my extreme fatigue in a way that a PCP just cannot do. She sounded very intelligent and seemed to break down my labs in a way I hadn’t heard before and I was so hopeful. She saw some concerning items and put me on supplements to help correct any issues. She told me I had PCOS and was concerned about my thyroid. After another round of bloodwork, I was told I needed to begin taking thyroid medication to amend what was going on and that this would be permanent because the issue was just not resolving. Before taking such a long term medication I went to get a second opinion and was told that basically everything Ilona was doing was actually creating the problems with my thyroid. The functional health professional I started seeing ran multiple different tests that Ilona did not do, and immediately informed me that nothing was wrong at all with my thyroid and to stop what she had prescribed immediately before doing permanent damage. It was also discovered that I did NOT have PCOS and instead had issues with my cortisol levels and gut health. I was also informed that getting blood work done on certain days of your menstrual cycle would produce the result that I was given and such dramatic conclusions cannot be reached with the timing Ilona was ordering tests. Within two visits to someone else, and the additional testing they requested, my issues were resolved instead of declining and I already started to feel improvements. Ilona was kind and professional, but not as thorough as I needed for a medical professional and jumped to conclusions far too quickly before truly investigating all of the bodily systems.
