If you searched for neurofeedback therapy in Venice, check which Venice you mean. Venice, Illinois is a small Metro East city across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, and this page covers neurofeedback across the whole state rather than that one town. Patients there usually compare any Metro East listings below with practices on the Missouri side around St. Louis. If you meant Venice in Florida or California, look up that state in the directory instead.
Across Illinois, neurofeedback supply sits mostly in the Chicago metro and its suburbs, with smaller numbers of practices in places such as Rockford, Peoria, Champaign-Urbana, Springfield and the Quad Cities. Much of central and southern Illinois has few or no local options, so people there often plan around a long drive or look across the state line toward St. Louis or the Iowa side of the Quad Cities. Training usually means repeated visits, so distance matters more than it would for a single appointment.
We are not aware of an Illinois licence specific to neurofeedback, so treat the general professional rules as the frame. It is most often delivered in outpatient psychology, counseling or behavioral health offices, and sometimes in a physician practice, by clinicians working within their own licence. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation runs the public lookup for physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors and social workers, and oversees the Illinois State Medical Board and the Board of Nursing. A lookup shows licence status and public discipline, but not whether someone is trained in neurofeedback.
Before booking, ask who designs and reviews your protocol, who is present during sessions, what equipment is used, how risks are disclosed in writing, what happens if nothing changes after a reasonable trial, and what a written quote itemizes. Most neurofeedback is paid out of pocket, and evidence is still developing for many of the conditions it is marketed for.
The order of this list is not for sale. Featured slots are labeled and capped, Verified means a clinic has completed credential checks rather than paid for placement, and Regenerated.com is free for patients. Being listed is not an endorsement. For how neurofeedback works and what research shows, see the national neurofeedback therapy hub, and for reading this page, see How to read a Regenerated city hub and Featured vs Verified vs organic.
Regulatory context
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is regulated as a Class II prescription device. The first 510(k) clearance went to NeuroStar in 2008 for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder. Subsequent clearances expanded the on-label scope to obsessive-compulsive disorder (BrainsWay deep TMS, 2018), smoking cessation (BrainsWay, 2020), anxious depression as an adjunct indication (2021), and migraine via single-pulse TMS devices such as eNeura SpringTMS and SAVI Dual. Biofeedback instruments are cleared under 21 CFR 882.1425 as Class II devices for relaxation training and stress reduction. EEG-based neurofeedback systems hold 510(k) clearances in the same category. Cranial electrotherapy stimulation, tDCS wellness devices, and many vagus nerve stimulation accessories sold direct to consumers are not cleared as medical devices, and clinical claims beyond cleared indications are off-label.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation investigates TMS clinics for supervision deficiencies, corporate practice violations, and off-label marketing. Illinois has a strong corporate practice of medicine doctrine that shapes TMS and neurofeedback clinic ownership structures. The Illinois attorney general has pursued Consumer Fraud Act actions against neurofeedback providers making cure claims for autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities. Commercial insurers and Illinois Medicaid managed care contractors require documented treatment-resistant depression before covering TMS for major depression.
