Psychedelic Therapy clinics in the United States

This is the national page for psychedelic therapy on Regenerated.com, listing clinics across the United States that record the treatment. Psychedelic therapy, also called psychedelic assisted therapy or psychedelic assisted psychotherapy, pairs a supervised dose of a psychedelic compound with preparation and integration sessions led by a trained facilitator or licensed therapist. The compounds people ask about are psilocybin, the active ingredient in so called magic mushrooms, MDMA, LSD and ketamine, which is the only one a US clinician can legally prescribe today. Psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychologists, licensed therapists and, in state programs, licensed facilitators deliver it. Patients often compare it with ketamine therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), standard antidepressants and trauma focused talk therapy.

The evidence picture is promising and still unsettled. No classic psychedelic is FDA approved for any medical use, and psilocybin, MDMA and LSD remain Schedule I controlled substances under federal law. Research led by Roland Griffiths at the Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research, along with trials at New York University and Imperial College London, found meaningful short term improvement in depression, distress linked to serious illness and some addictions, and the FDA has granted psilocybin breakthrough therapy designation for treatment resistant depression. The FDA declined to approve MDMA assisted therapy for PTSD after reviewing trial data, citing concerns about study design. Ketamine is FDA approved as an anesthetic and used off label for depression, while esketamine nasal spray is approved for treatment resistant depression.

Candidates are generally adults with depression, PTSD, end of life distress or a substance use disorder that has not responded to standard care, who can attend preparation and integration sessions. People with a personal or family history of psychosis or bipolar disorder, uncontrolled heart disease or high blood pressure, pregnancy, or certain medications such as lithium are usually told to wait or look elsewhere. Anyone in crisis should contact their own clinician first, since psychedelic programs are not emergency services.

Supply looks different from most treatments on this site. Ketamine assisted psychotherapy is offered in psychiatry practices, infusion clinics and mental health groups in most states. Legal psilocybin sessions for adults happen through state licensed service centers in Oregon and licensed healing centers in Colorado, while university hospitals across the country run clinical trials that accept screened volunteers. Listings concentrate in Oregon, Colorado, California, Texas, Florida and New York, and many patients travel to a state program or trial site rather than wait for options at home.

Before booking anywhere, ask who leads the session, what license they hold, and whether a medical clinician screens you and is available during the dose. Ask exactly what is administered: the compound, its legal basis in that state, the route and its source, whether it is a lab tested product or a compounded one. Ask for written disclosure of risks, including anxiety, frightening experiences, raised blood pressure and heart rate, and rare psychiatric reactions. Ask what a quote itemizes across screening, preparation, the dosing session and integration, and what follow up looks like afterward.

This national list is not for sale. Organic order is never paid ranking, Featured slots are labeled and capped, and Verified means the clinic completed credential checks, not that it spent money. Regenerated.com is free for patients, and inclusion in the directory is not an endorsement. Open the state hubs below the list to build a shortlist near you, and remember that what is legal depends on the state.

Psychedelic Therapy in the United States, answered.

Psychedelic therapy is a structured program in which a patient takes a psychedelic compound such as psilocybin, MDMA or ketamine under supervision, with preparation sessions before and integration sessions after. Psilocybin and LSD act mainly on serotonin 2A receptors, MDMA releases serotonin and oxytocin, and ketamine blocks NMDA glutamate receptors. Researchers think these effects make rigid thought patterns more flexible for a period, which the therapy sessions then use. The supervised setting and the talk therapy around the dose are considered part of the treatment, not extras.

Psychedelic therapy is legal in the United States only in specific forms. Ketamine can be prescribed off label by licensed clinicians in every state. Adults can receive psilocybin through state regulated programs in Oregon and Colorado, which license facilitators and service or healing centers rather than run medical clinics. Psilocybin, MDMA and LSD remain illegal under federal law outside approved research, and a city decriminalization measure does not make paid sessions legal. Ask any provider which law their service operates under.

The evidence for psychedelic therapy is strongest for psilocybin in treatment resistant depression and distress linked to serious illness, and for MDMA assisted therapy in PTSD, based on controlled trials that are still relatively small. No classic psychedelic is FDA approved, and the FDA declined to approve MDMA for PTSD after raising concerns about trial design. Ketamine has a longer record in depression and is used off label. Claims for general wellness, creativity or anti aging have no solid trial support.

A typical candidate for psychedelic therapy is an adult with depression, PTSD, end of life distress or an addiction that has not improved with standard treatment, who has stable support and can commit to preparation and integration. People with a personal or family history of schizophrenia, psychosis or bipolar disorder, significant heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure or pregnancy are usually screened out. Some antidepressants and lithium interact with psychedelics, so medication changes should be planned with the prescribing clinician.

A course of psychedelic therapy usually moves through screening, one or more preparation sessions, a supervised dosing session that can last several hours for psilocybin or MDMA, and integration sessions in the following days and weeks. Ketamine programs typically involve a series of shorter sessions, sometimes followed by maintenance. The number of sessions varies by compound, program and response, so ask each provider for a written plan covering every stage, who attends each one and what happens if the experience is difficult.

The cost of psychedelic therapy is driven by the compound, whether medical screening is included, how many preparation and integration sessions are bundled, the length of the dosing session, and whether one or two facilitators are present. Insurance rarely covers psilocybin services, and coverage for ketamine is limited mostly to esketamine. This page publishes no averages because programs package very different services and change often, so one figure would mislead. Ask each provider for an itemized written quote.

Checking a psychedelic therapy provider starts with the person leading your session. Every state medical board and nursing board offers a free online license lookup showing active status and discipline, and the Federation of State Medical Boards links to all of them. State boards for psychologists and counselors offer similar searches. In Oregon and Colorado, the state psilocybin program publishes its own registry of licensed facilitators and centers. A wellness certificate or retreat training is not a clinical license.

Organic order on this psychedelic therapy page is never sold, so no provider can buy a higher place in the national list. Featured slots are clearly labeled and capped in number. Verified means the clinic completed credential checks, not that it paid. Regenerated.com is free for patients, and inclusion is not an endorsement. To narrow the list, open your state hub below it, then a city hub, and confirm what each provider can legally offer in that state.
