Migraine Treatment clinics in New York

If you are searching for the best migraine relief in NYC or elsewhere in New York, the useful answer is a provider whose training fits your kind of migraine and the treatments you have already tried, not a single winner. Most of the migraine treatment supply listed here sits in New York City and its suburbs on Long Island and in Westchester, with smaller groups in the Capital Region around Albany and in Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse. The North Country, the Southern Tier and much of the Adirondacks have little or none, so people there often drive a few hours to the nearest metro and use telehealth for follow up between visits. Near the borders, a practice in New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania is sometimes closer than one in New York.

We are not aware of a New York rule written specifically for migraine care, so the general federal and professional rules apply: prescription medicines, preventive injections, nerve blocks and infusions are ordered by a licensed prescriber, usually a neurologist or headache specialist, or a nurse practitioner or physician assistant working in that kind of practice. Most of this happens in a physician office, a hospital clinic or an infusion suite. Wellness settings that offer IV drips or add on therapies are a different category, so ask who orders and supervises the treatment.

To verify a provider, use the license lookup run by the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions, which covers physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, and check physician and physician assistant discipline with the Department of Health Office of Professional Medical Conduct. A check confirms a current license and any public action. It does not show headache training, board certification or how patients fared.

Before booking, ask who will treat you and who supervises, exactly what is being given and where it comes from, how risks are disclosed in writing, what the plan is if the first approach does not help, and what a quote itemizes.

Clinics here are not ranked by payment. Featured slots are labeled and capped, Verified means a clinic passed credential checks rather than paid for placement, and Regenerated.com is free for patients. Being listed is not an endorsement. The national migraine treatment hub covers how each option works and what the evidence shows. For how this directory works, read How to read a Regenerated city hub and Featured vs Verified vs organic.

Regulatory context

A note on New York's migraine treatment rules.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is regulated as a Class II prescription device. The first 510(k) clearance went to NeuroStar in 2008 for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder. Subsequent clearances expanded the on-label scope to obsessive-compulsive disorder (BrainsWay deep TMS, 2018), smoking cessation (BrainsWay, 2020), anxious depression as an adjunct indication (2021), and migraine via single-pulse TMS devices such as eNeura SpringTMS and SAVI Dual. Biofeedback instruments are cleared under 21 CFR 882.1425 as Class II devices for relaxation training and stress reduction. EEG-based neurofeedback systems hold 510(k) clearances in the same category. Cranial electrotherapy stimulation, tDCS wellness devices, and many vagus nerve stimulation accessories sold direct to consumers are not cleared as medical devices, and clinical claims beyond cleared indications are off-label.

  • New York Education Law Article 131 (Medicine)
Defines the practice of medicine and supervision framework for delegated procedures including TMS technician work.
  • New York Education Law Article 153 (Psychology)
Governs licensed psychologists who deliver biofeedback and neurofeedback within scope.
  • New York General Business Law Sections 349 and 350
Supports attorney general action against deceptive medical device advertising.

The New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct investigates TMS clinics for supervision lapses, corporate practice violations, and off-label marketing. New York enforces a strong corporate practice of medicine doctrine and requires Professional Service Corporation or similar structures for clinical ownership. The New York attorney general pursues General Business Law Sections 349 and 350 actions against deceptive medical device advertising, including neurofeedback cure claims. Commercial insurers and New York Medicaid typically require documented treatment-resistant depression before covering TMS for major depressive disorder.

Most listings cluster in New York City, Long Island and Westchester, with smaller groups in the Albany area, Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse. Rural regions such as the North Country, the Southern Tier and the Adirondacks have few or no listings, so patients there usually travel to the nearest metro for a first visit and ask whether follow up can happen by telehealth. People near a state line sometimes find a closer option across the border.

Cost depends on the therapy, the setting and your plan, so this page does not publish averages. Many prescription preventives, injections and nerve blocks can be billed to insurance once an insurer's documentation criteria are met, while IV drips at wellness clinics and some add on services are usually cash pay. Ask any New York clinic for a written quote that itemizes the visit, the medicine or procedure, and anything billed separately.

As far as we know, New York has no rule specific to migraine care, so the usual professional rules apply: prescriptions and procedures come from licensed physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants acting within their scope. The state regulation section on this page shows the sourced detail. If a clinic's setup seems unusual, ask who orders the treatment, who gives it and who supervises.

Search the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions online verification for physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses and nurse practitioners. For physician and physician assistant discipline, check the Department of Health Office of Professional Medical Conduct. These searches confirm a current license and public actions, but not headache training or results, so ask separately about board certification in neurology or headache medicine.

Specialist care usually suits adults with frequent or chronic migraine days, people whose attacks have not settled with standard medicines, and anyone overusing pain relievers. Someone with occasional, well controlled migraine is often advised to start with a primary care doctor. A new, sudden or very different headache, especially with weakness, confusion or vision loss, needs urgent medical assessment rather than a clinic booking.

This page lists clinics across the whole state so you can compare regions and decide whether to travel. City pages focus on one metro, and the national migraine treatment hub explains how treatments work. A general web search mixes paid ads with listings, while the order here is not sold, Featured slots are labeled, and Verified reflects credential checks rather than spend.

Organic order on this New York page is not paid ranking. A small, capped number of Featured slots may appear, and each one is clearly labeled so you can tell it apart from the rest of the list. Verified means a clinic completed credential checks, not that it spent money. Regenerated.com is free for patients, and inclusion is not an endorsement.

Evidence is strongest for established prescription options: acute medicines, several approved preventive drugs and injections, botulinum toxin for chronic migraine, and certain nerve blocks and devices for selected patients. Response varies, and most preventives take time to judge. Evidence is much thinner for IV vitamin drips, ketamine outside research or specialist settings, and many wellness add ons, so ask any provider what supports the specific treatment offered.
