Psychedelic Therapy clinics in New York

Many people searching for psychedelic therapy in New York start by looking for a psychedelics psychiatrist. That search points to ketamine based treatment delivered inside a licensed medical or psychiatric practice, since classic psychedelics such as psilocybin or MDMA are not legally available here outside a clinical trial. Physicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants under medical supervision can also prescribe and oversee it.

Supply across the state is uneven. Most of New York's psychedelic therapy clinics sit in New York City, with smaller concentrations in the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region around Albany. Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse each support a smaller number of practices locally, but much of the North Country, the Southern Tier and the Adirondacks has little or no local supply, and residents there should expect to travel toward the nearest metro.

New York has no separate licence category for this treatment. Ketamine assisted psychotherapy and ketamine infusion follow the same medical and nursing scope of practice rules as any prescription medication, so administration happens under a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant within a licensed practice, typically an office, infusion suite or psychiatric clinic rather than a wellness setting.

To verify a provider, check the New York State Education Department's Office of Professions licence lookup, which covers physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists and licensed clinical social workers, and check the Office of Professional Medical Conduct for disciplinary action against a physician. A clean licence confirms someone is permitted to practice; it does not confirm how a clinic runs its psychedelic therapy program.

Before booking anywhere in the state, ask about the prescriber's credentials, who supervises each session, what is being administered and where it comes from, and how risks are disclosed in writing. Ask what happens if treatment does not help, and request a quote itemizing evaluation, medication, monitoring and any psychotherapy separately, since most of this care is billed directly to the patient.

The clinics on this page are not ranked by payment. Organic order is not for sale, Featured placements are labeled and capped, and Verified means a completed credential check rather than a paid upgrade. Browsing the directory is free for patients, and inclusion here is not an endorsement. Read How to read a Regenerated city hub and Featured vs Verified vs organic for how to compare entries.

Regulatory context

A note on New York's psychedelic therapy rules.

Ketamine is a DEA Schedule III controlled substance, FDA-approved as a dissociative anesthetic and used off-label for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, and chronic pain. The FDA approved esketamine (Spravato) in 2019 for treatment-resistant depression under a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program that requires in-office administration at certified sites. MDMA-assisted therapy remains Schedule I; the FDA issued a Complete Response Letter in August 2024 to Lykos Therapeutics on its MDMA new drug application. Psilocybin is Schedule I and holds FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation through sponsors such as Compass Pathways and Usona, but has not received FDA approval. Oregon Measure 109 (passed 2020, operational 2023) created a state psilocybin service center framework, and Colorado Proposition 122 (2022) authorized regulated healing centers.

  • S 3520 / Psilocybin Assisted Therapy (2023)
Proposed a state psilocybin therapy framework; pending.
  • A 114 / Psychedelic Decriminalization (2023)
Proposed decriminalization of possession and use of psilocybin, MDMA, DMT, mescaline, and ibogaine; pending.
  • New York Public Health Law Article 33
Mirrors federal scheduling and governs controlled substance prescribing; requires NY-specific practitioner registration.

New York enforces federal and state scheduling. The New York State Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) requires practitioners to obtain a New York State Controlled Substance License in addition to federal DEA. The Office of Professional Medical Conduct oversees prescriber discipline. DEA enforcement on ketamine clinics focuses on diversion and Ryan Haight Act telehealth compliance. New York PMP (I-STOP) requires electronic prescribing for controlled substances.

Psychedelic Therapy in , answered.

Most of the state's psychedelic therapy clinics are concentrated in New York City, with additional practices in the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region around Albany. Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse each have a smaller number serving their surrounding areas. Residents of the North Country, the Southern Tier or the Adirondacks typically have little nearby and should plan to travel toward one of these metros, especially for a treatment course involving multiple visits.

Cost depends on the medication used, how it is administered, how much monitoring is included and whether licensed psychotherapy is bundled into the visit. Ketamine assisted psychotherapy is usually billed directly to the patient, while certain esketamine protocols may qualify for insurance coverage under specific plans. Confirm your benefits with your insurer directly, and ask any clinic for a written quote that separates evaluation, medication, monitoring and therapy. This page does not publish average prices because billing varies too widely to be useful.

A psychiatrist is one of several licensed professionals who can oversee this care in New York. Physicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants working under medical supervision can also prescribe and administer ketamine based treatment, usually working alongside a licensed therapist for the psychotherapy portion. What matters more than the specific title is whether the person is licensed, working within a supervised medical setting, and clear about their role in your care.

Use the New York State Education Department's Office of Professions license lookup to confirm that a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, psychologist or licensed clinical social worker holds an active license. For physicians specifically, the Office of Professional Medical Conduct publishes disciplinary actions. A clean record confirms someone is permitted to practice in New York. It will not tell you how a particular clinic structures its psychedelic therapy program or who actually supervises each session.

Some adults with depression, anxiety or PTSD that has not responded to standard treatment may be considered for ketamine based care after a full psychiatric and medical evaluation. Pregnancy, uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain heart conditions or specific psychiatric histories can lead a prescriber to recommend waiting or pursuing another approach first. Candidacy is decided in that evaluation, not by a directory listing, so bring complete medical and medication history to the consultation.

This page covers psychedelic therapy availability across the whole state, showing how supply is distributed between New York City and the rest of the state and what to verify wherever you book. A city page narrows that same information to one metro's clinics, while the national hub explains the mechanism and evidence behind the treatment itself. A general search result will not sort providers by license status or disclose how a listing is ordered, which is what this page and the two linked guides are built to do.

Featured marks a limited, clearly labeled number of paid placements and never determines the order of the rest of the list. Verified means a clinic completed the credential checks described in our vetting materials, not that it paid for the label. Organic order, the position of every other listing, is not for sale. None of these labels are an endorsement of any specific provider, and the two linked guides explain how to read all three.

Research into ketamine for treatment resistant depression and certain anxiety conditions is further along than research into classic psychedelics such as psilocybin or MDMA, which remain largely confined to clinical trials in the United States. Much of what is offered commercially, including in New York, is cash pay and not FDA approved for the specific use a patient is seeking. That does not mean it cannot help, only that the evidence base is still developing and worth discussing directly with a prescriber.
