New York
Many people searching for psychedelic therapy in New York start by looking for a psychedelics psychiatrist. That search points to ketamine based treatment delivered inside a licensed medical or psychiatric practice, since classic psychedelics such as psilocybin or MDMA are not legally available here outside a clinical trial. Physicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants under medical supervision can also prescribe and oversee it.
Supply across the state is uneven. Most of New York's psychedelic therapy clinics sit in New York City, with smaller concentrations in the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region around Albany. Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse each support a smaller number of practices locally, but much of the North Country, the Southern Tier and the Adirondacks has little or no local supply, and residents there should expect to travel toward the nearest metro.
New York has no separate licence category for this treatment. Ketamine assisted psychotherapy and ketamine infusion follow the same medical and nursing scope of practice rules as any prescription medication, so administration happens under a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant within a licensed practice, typically an office, infusion suite or psychiatric clinic rather than a wellness setting.
To verify a provider, check the New York State Education Department's Office of Professions licence lookup, which covers physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists and licensed clinical social workers, and check the Office of Professional Medical Conduct for disciplinary action against a physician. A clean licence confirms someone is permitted to practice; it does not confirm how a clinic runs its psychedelic therapy program.
Before booking anywhere in the state, ask about the prescriber's credentials, who supervises each session, what is being administered and where it comes from, and how risks are disclosed in writing. Ask what happens if treatment does not help, and request a quote itemizing evaluation, medication, monitoring and any psychotherapy separately, since most of this care is billed directly to the patient.
The clinics on this page are not ranked by payment. Organic order is not for sale, Featured placements are labeled and capped, and Verified means a completed credential check rather than a paid upgrade. Browsing the directory is free for patients, and inclusion here is not an endorsement. Read How to read a Regenerated city hub and Featured vs Verified vs organic for how to compare entries.
Regulatory context
Ketamine is a DEA Schedule III controlled substance, FDA-approved as a dissociative anesthetic and used off-label for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, and chronic pain. The FDA approved esketamine (Spravato) in 2019 for treatment-resistant depression under a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program that requires in-office administration at certified sites. MDMA-assisted therapy remains Schedule I; the FDA issued a Complete Response Letter in August 2024 to Lykos Therapeutics on its MDMA new drug application. Psilocybin is Schedule I and holds FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation through sponsors such as Compass Pathways and Usona, but has not received FDA approval. Oregon Measure 109 (passed 2020, operational 2023) created a state psilocybin service center framework, and Colorado Proposition 122 (2022) authorized regulated healing centers.
New York enforces federal and state scheduling. The New York State Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) requires practitioners to obtain a New York State Controlled Substance License in addition to federal DEA. The Office of Professional Medical Conduct oversees prescriber discipline. DEA enforcement on ketamine clinics focuses on diversion and Ryan Haight Act telehealth compliance. New York PMP (I-STOP) requires electronic prescribing for controlled substances.
