Lyme Disease Treatment clinics in the United States

This is the national page for Lyme disease treatment on Regenerated.com, listing clinics across the United States that record care for Lyme disease, also called Lyme borreliosis, and for symptoms that persist after it. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused mainly by Borrelia burgdorferi and spread by the bite of infected blacklegged ticks, Ixodes scapularis in the East and Ixodes pacificus on the West Coast. Standard treatment is a course of oral antibiotics such as doxycycline, amoxicillin or cefuroxime axetil, with IV ceftriaxone used for some neurologic or cardiac cases. Care is delivered by primary care physicians, infectious disease specialists, rheumatologists and neurologists, and also by integrative, functional and naturopathic clinicians who treat patients with long running symptoms. Patients often compare it with care for chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, mold related illness and tick borne coinfections such as babesiosis and anaplasmosis.

The evidence is strongest for early antibiotic treatment. Guidelines published in 2020 by the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Academy of Neurology and the American College of Rheumatology support short antibiotic courses for early Lyme disease, Lyme arthritis, Lyme carditis and neurologic Lyme disease, and the antibiotics used are long established, FDA approved medicines. A minority of treated patients develop post treatment Lyme disease syndrome, with fatigue, pain or cognitive problems lasting months. Randomized trials of prolonged antibiotics for persistent symptoms, including the study led by Mark Klempner and the PLEASE trial in the Netherlands, did not show lasting benefit over placebo, and long courses carry real risks. The term chronic Lyme disease is contested, and some clinicians follow the broader approach of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society instead. Ozone, hyperbaric oxygen, IV vitamin drips, herbal protocols and similar integrative options are not approved for Lyme disease, evidence for them is thin, and they are usually cash pay.

A typical candidate has a confirmed or strongly suspected Lyme diagnosis, a known tick exposure, a bullseye rash called erythema migrans, positive two tier blood testing, or symptoms that remain after standard treatment. A new rash, facial palsy, chest pain, palpitations or fainting after a tick bite needs prompt medical review rather than a wellness booking. People who are pregnant, young children, and patients with heart symptoms usually need a physician led plan, and anyone offered long term antibiotics or IV lines should ask for a second opinion first.

Supply is spread nationwide and sits in several kinds of settings: primary care and infectious disease practices, hospital and university programs, integrative and functional medicine clinics, infusion suites and wellness studios. Reported Lyme cases concentrate in the Northeast, the mid Atlantic and the upper Midwest, especially Wisconsin and Minnesota, with fewer in northern California. Listings for longer term or integrative Lyme care also appear outside those regions, including the Southeast, Southwest and Mountain West. Many patients across the country travel for an initial evaluation and then continue follow up by telehealth or with a local physician.

Before booking anywhere, ask who holds the license and who supervises each treatment. Ask exactly what is administered, in what dose and by what route, where it comes from, whether it is compounded, and whether its use for Lyme disease follows guidelines or is off label. Ask which lab runs any testing and whether it uses FDA cleared tests. Request written disclosure of risks, an itemized quote covering visits, labs, medicines and infusions, and a clear plan for follow up and for stopping a treatment that does not help.

This national list is not for sale. Organic order is never paid ranking, Featured slots are labeled and capped, and Verified means the clinic completed credential checks, not that it spent money. Regenerated.com is free for patients, and inclusion in the directory is not an endorsement of any clinic or treatment. Use the state hubs below the list to build a shortlist of Lyme disease treatment providers closer to you, and read about Lyme disease as a condition for symptoms and testing.

Lyme Disease Treatment in the United States, answered.

Lyme disease treatment is mainly a course of antibiotics that clears the Borrelia burgdorferi infection spread by blacklegged ticks. Early Lyme disease is usually treated with oral doxycycline, amoxicillin or cefuroxime axetil, and IV ceftriaxone is used for some neurologic or cardiac cases. Patients with symptoms that persist after antibiotics often receive supportive care for fatigue, pain, sleep and cognition. Integrative clinics may add other therapies, which have thin evidence for Lyme disease, so ask what each one is meant to do.

The evidence supports short antibiotic courses for early Lyme disease, Lyme arthritis, Lyme carditis and neurologic Lyme disease, as described in the 2020 IDSA, AAN and ACR guidelines. Persistent symptoms after treatment are recognized as post treatment Lyme disease syndrome. Randomized trials of prolonged antibiotics for those symptoms did not show lasting benefit and carried risks. Ozone, hyperbaric oxygen, IV vitamins and herbal protocols are not approved for Lyme disease, and evidence for them remains limited.

A good candidate for Lyme disease treatment at a specialty clinic has a confirmed or strongly suspected diagnosis, a known tick exposure, or symptoms that remain after standard antibiotics. Many patients arrive after their primary care doctor has treated the infection and symptoms persist. A new rash, facial palsy, chest pain or fainting after a tick bite needs prompt medical care first. Pregnant patients, young children and anyone offered long term antibiotics usually need a physician led plan and a second opinion.

A course of Lyme disease care usually starts with a history of tick exposure and symptoms, a physical exam and a review of earlier blood tests. Early infection is treated with a short antibiotic course followed by a check on whether the rash and symptoms resolve. Patients with lingering symptoms often have scheduled reviews that track fatigue, pain, sleep and cognition over weeks or months. A good plan explains what is being treated, how progress is measured and when a treatment should stop.

The cost of Lyme disease treatment depends on the clinician type, visit length, the lab used for testing, the medicines prescribed, any IV infusions or line placement, and whether insurance covers the care. Guideline antibiotic treatment and specialist visits are often covered, while specialty labs, integrative therapies and many longer term Lyme programs are cash pay. This page publishes no averages because clinics bundle services very differently. Ask each provider for an itemized written quote and confirm coverage with your insurer.

You can find Lyme disease treatment in Los Angeles, including Studio City in the San Fernando Valley, by opening the California state hub below this national list and choosing the Los Angeles area. Southern California has fewer reported Lyme cases than the Northeast, so local options are often integrative clinics, infectious disease specialists or practices that see patients who were infected elsewhere. Confirm each clinician's license, ask how they test and treat, and compare written plans before booking.

You can verify a Lyme disease provider's license through the licensing board in the state where they practice, since every state runs a public lookup. Physicians and nurse practitioners are checked with the medical or nursing board, and naturopathic doctors have their own boards in the states that license them. Confirm the license is active, look for public discipline and ask about infectious disease training. A Verified label on Regenerated.com means the clinic completed credential checks described in the vetting materials.

Organic order on this Lyme disease treatment list is never sold, so no clinic can pay to move up the regular results. Featured slots are labeled and capped, so paid placement stays visible and limited. Verified means the clinic completed credential checks, not that it spent money. Regenerated.com is free for patients, and inclusion is not an endorsement, so use the state hubs below the list for a local shortlist and compare credentials, testing and follow up before you book.
