United States
This is the national page for TMJ treatment on Regenerated.com, listing clinics across the United States that record care for the temporomandibular joint. TMJ treatment, also called TMD treatment or care for temporomandibular disorders, covers jaw joint pain, clicking or locking, limited opening and the muscle pain that often comes with clenching and grinding, known as bruxism. Conservative care includes custom oral appliances such as occlusal splints and night guards, jaw physical therapy, heat and gentle exercises, short courses of anti inflammatory medicine and work on stress, sleep and posture. Some clinics add trigger point injections, botulinum toxin injections, arthrocentesis, which rinses the joint with fluid through fine needles, or regenerative injections such as platelet rich plasma (PRP), prolotherapy with dextrose and hyaluronic acid. Care is delivered by general dentists with TMD training, orofacial pain specialists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, physical therapists, and some physicians, chiropractors and integrative clinicians.
The evidence picture is clearer for the conservative end than for the newer options. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research and a National Academies report on temporomandibular disorders both favor reversible, conservative care first, because many cases ease with time, self care, splints and physical therapy. Arthrocentesis and joint surgery by oral surgeons are established for selected joint problems, and TMJ joint replacement devices are FDA approved for severe joint damage. PRP, prolotherapy, hyaluronic acid and stem cell or other biologic injections for the jaw are investigational, with small trials and mixed results, and they are used off label in the United States. Botulinum toxin is not FDA approved for TMD and is also used off label. Treat any regenerative offer as an option still being studied.
A typical candidate has jaw pain, pain on chewing, headaches linked to clenching, or a jaw that catches or locks, and has had a proper exam that places the problem in the joint, the muscles or both. Clinicians often use the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders, known as DC/TMD, to sort this out. Painless clicking on its own usually needs no treatment. People with recent facial trauma, a suspected infection, dental pain, nerve pain or symptoms that might come from the ear, sinuses or neck are usually sent to be checked first, and irreversible steps such as grinding down teeth or broad bite changes are usually discouraged before conservative care has had a fair trial.
Supply is spread across the country and sits mostly in dental settings. TMJ care is offered in general and cosmetic dental practices, orofacial pain clinics, oral surgery offices, university dental school clinics, hospital programs, physical therapy clinics and regenerative or integrative medicine practices that add PRP or prolotherapy. Listings concentrate in large metros such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta, while smaller suburbs and rural areas often have fewer options. Many patients start with a local dentist and travel to a larger city for a specialist opinion or a procedure.
Before booking anywhere, ask about the clinician's license and specific training in temporomandibular disorders, and who supervises each step. Ask exactly what will be administered or fitted, where an injected product comes from, and whether its use for the jaw is approved or off label. Ask for written disclosure of risks, including bite changes from long appliance use. A clear quote itemizes the exam, imaging, appliance, injections, physical therapy and follow up, and the plan should say what happens if symptoms do not improve.
This national list is not for sale. Organic order is never paid ranking, Featured slots are labeled and capped, and Verified means the clinic completed credential checks, not that it spent money. Regenerated.com is free for patients, and inclusion in the directory is not an endorsement. Use the state hubs below the list to build a shortlist of TMJ providers closer to you.
